ROUTE

The start from Pampaneira

The start is realized from the information point of the Natural Space of Sierra Nevada, at the freedom square in Pampaneira. The way ascends softly between stepped crops on the hillside, splashed by fruit trees and other typical trees as the chestnut-tree or the mulberry. This cultural landscape spreads over both hillsides of the cliff, and between the sides of the river Poqueira and is also the legacy of the Moorish settlers who colonized the slope of Sierra Nevada. From the beginning of the tour the effect of the human action is observed in the hillsides. The natural vegetation was replaced with crops. To make this agriculture of mountain productive they designed a complex irrigation canal. This canal has a great cultural value, not only in agriculture, but for its repercussion in the landscape and the ecosystem.

WAYPOINT 1 > BUBIÓN HONDO NEIGHBOURHOOD

After approximately 45 minutes we arrive at Bubión Hondo neighbourhood. We have to cross the village by its low part, passing through the church, on the way to the sports centre, to take the way that goes to Capileira, parallel to the road. The way passes next to a few rehabilitated cottages. The abundance of cherry, apple, pear and peach trees captures the attention.

WAYPOINT 2 > CAPILEIRA

After two kilometers of ascent we arrive to Capileira, which is the most illuminated town of the Barranco de Poqueira. We will cross Capileira under its “tinaos” and narrow streets to descend to the river and continue the route.
